Learn to Skate

 These curriculum-based classes follow the Learn to Skate USA skating program, providing instructors for each level. 

Winter II 2026

All classes are 30 minutes with a 30-minute practice time during a public session (not always on the day of the lesson). Learn to skate participants only.

Class Fee -  5/6 classes - $135.00 (Learn to Skate - Snowplow Skate Hockey); $154.00 Freestyle Classes.

The Price includes a half-hour lesson, half-hour practice on a public session and skate rental fee. Please check the schedule for the public skating times.

Make-Up Classes: There may be an opportunity to schedule a make-up class on another day that there are lessons. Only one make-up class per session will be allowed and has to be made up in the same session, not in a future session. Make-Up Classes are not GUARANTEED Must email lburch@bluesportstable.com at least 48 hours before.

Refund requests must be made at least 24 hours prior to the start of the first class. Please be aware that there is a NO refund policy after the session begins.

Skating Levels – What class do I register for?

Snowplow Sam 1 - BEGINNER CLASS

For children who are 3 - 5 years old and with little or no skating experience. The skater will learn basic balance and skating skills in an age-appropriate setting.  Any skaters who have never been in lessons before and are between the ages of 3 and 5 years old will start at this level.

Snowplow Sam 2, 3 & 4

For skaters who are 3 - 5 years old with some skating experience and have completed Snowplow Sam 1.

Basic 1 - BEGINNER CLASS

For children age 6 up through 13 years old.  This class provides basic skating skills, both forward and backward.  Any skaters who have never been in lessons before and are between the ages of 6 and 13 years old will start at this level.

Basic 2 - 6

After completing Basic 1 or Snowplow Sam 4, skaters continue to work on their skills through Basic 6.

Hockey 1-4

Pre-Free Skate

This class is a combination of Basic 7 and 8.  Skaters will begin to learn a variety of progressive skating skills, transitions, spins and jumps.

Free Skate 1-6 

After completing the Pre-Free Skate class, skaters will then work on the Free Skate 1-6 levels.

Adult 1 - BEGINNER CLASS

Adults or skaters who are 14 years old and older.  Any adults who have never been in lessons before will start at this level.​

Adult 2 - 6 

After completing Adult 1, skaters can progress their skills through Adult 6.  The Adult levels are special classes designed for the mature skater.

    5:00 - 5:35 pm Snowplow 1-3, Basic 1 & 2, Adults

    5:35 - 6:05 pm Snowplow 1, Basic 3-6, Hockey 1-4,

    Pre-Freestyle

  • 5 Classes | 10:00am and 10:35am

    10:00 - 10:30 am Snowplow 1-2, Basic 1 & 2, and Adults

    10:35 - 11:05 am Basic 3-6, Snowplow 3, Pre-Freestyle,

    10:00-11:00am -  Freestyle 1-6 ($154/session) 

    11:30 am - 12:00 pm  Hockey 1-4

  • 5 Classes | 10:20am and 10:50am

    10:20 - 10:50 am Snowplow 1 and Basic 1 

    10:50 - 11:20 am Snowplow 2 and Basic 2

Hockey 1-4 Classes

Please read the curriculum below for each class to decide which level is best for your player!

Hockey 1

  • Falling and recovery to a balanced standing position

  • Proper basic hockey stance (forward and backward)

  • March forward across the ice (8–10 steps)

  • Two-foot glides and dips from forward marching

  • Forward swizzles / double C-cuts (4–6 in a row)

  • T-push to a two-foot glide (hold 2–4 seconds), alternating feet

  • Stationary snowplow stop

  • Bonus skill: Front-to-back and back-to-front turns (stationary)

Youth Hockey Match

Hockey 2

  • Forward strides using 45-degree V-push with proper recovery and arm drive

  • Forward one-foot push and glide (right and left)

  • Forward C-cuts:

    • Single leg (R & L)

    • Alternating feet in a straight line

  • Backward hustle or march, then two-foot glide

  • Backward swizzles / double C-cuts (4–6 in a row)

  • Backward C-cuts:

    • Single leg (R & L)

    • Alternating feet in a straight line

  • Two-foot moving snowplow stop

  • Bonus skill: Scooter or skateboard push on a circle (R & L)

Ice hockey sticks

Hockey 3

  • Lateral crossover march (both directions)

  • Forward C-cuts (half-swizzle pumps) on a circle, both directions

  • Forward outside edges on half-circles (large Cs), alternating feet

  • Forward inside edges on half-circles (large Cs), alternating feet

  • Backward C-cuts (half-swizzle pumps) on a circle, both directions

  • Backward snowplow stops (one- and two-foot V-stop)

  • One-foot moving snowplow stop (R & L), introduce ¼ turn to hockey stop

  • Bonus skill: Forward stops and starts

Ice Hockey Match

Hockey 4

  • Quick starts using forward V-start

  • Backward one-foot glide (R & L)

  • Forward crossover glides (clockwise & counterclockwise), hold for 2 counts

  • Backward crossover glides (clockwise & counterclockwise), hold for 2 counts

  • Forward crossovers on a circle (4–6 each direction)

  • Backward crossovers on a circle (4–6 each direction)

  • Hockey stops to the left and right with speed

  • Bonus skill: Forward-to-backward mohawk pivots (both directions, R & L)
